Winnipeg Art Gallery

The most anticipated gallery opening in Canada.

Canada’s sixth-largest art gallery is putting the finishing touches on the Inuit Art Centre—hailed by the Globe & Mail as the most anticipated gallery opening in Canada. This centre will showcase the world’s largest collection of northern Inuit art. Besides the stunning bone and soapstone Inuit sculptures and paintings, the WAG features many temporary exhibits. In 2020, they will host Cree artist Kent Monkman’s ‘Shame and Prejudice’ and Anishinaabe artist Norval Morrisseau’s ‘Androgyny’.

Canadian Museum of Human Rights

Moving Canada forward in Reconciliation.

The world’s first human rights museum uses artifacts and modern digital media to share some of history’s most compelling stories—from the challenges of desegregation in the American south, to the trials of child soldiers in Africa, to the creation of the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Especially moving is the museum’s work on Canadian Indigenous rights and Reconciliation. Explore the museum on your own or on one of their many thought-provoking guided tours.

Assiniboine Park Zoo

The world’s best Arctic zoological experience.

Canada’s oldest zoo recently completed a multi-million dollar renovation, opening its showcase feature, Journey to Churchill. This immersive experience introduces you to the landscapes and animals of the north—majestic wolves, playful seals, and graceful caribou. It is also one of the few places in the world where you can marvel as polar bears swim over your head! Located inside the 400-acre Assiniboine Park, a visit to the zoo is a memorable day out no matter the season.

Local Dining Options

Two of Canada’s hottest restaurants are Winnipeg breweries.

Winnipeg has enjoyed an explosion in its culinary scene over the last few years. Clementine is the place for breakfast, and tapas at Segovia are always beautifully presented, creative, and delicious. Perhaps most impressively, Winnipeg’s brewers are also upping their food game: In 2019, Timmy Tom’s pizzeria at Trans Canada Brewing Co. was crowned ‘Best Pizza Maker in Canada’, and Nonsuch Brewing Co. was named one of the ten best new restaurants on the Prairies by the Globe & Mail.

The Forks

The most popular place in Manitoba.

With the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, the Manitoba Children’s Museum, CN Stage—home to festivities including Pride and Canada Day celebrations— and more, The Forks has something for everyone. Relax in the sauna in winter, stroll the Riverwalk or catch an award-winning city tour in summer, and grab a beer and delicious meal all year long. No matter what you fancy, you will soon see why The Forks is Manitoba’s most important gathering place.
